Xiaoyu Frank Sang is a Chinese composer, conductor, and pianist. He earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in music composition at New England Conservatory of Music. He is currently a DMA student in music composition at the University of Florida. His music has been performed at the Tuesday Night New Music series by various NEC musicians. His piece for orchestra and wind ensemble was recorded by the NEC Philharmonic and NEC Symphonic Winds during the reading sessions. His work is largely influenced by Dimitri Shostakovich, Charles Ives, and Igor Stravinsky. He enjoys combining different styles, genres, and musical elements with his own ideas to explore diverse effects or voices. These experiential insights into composing have helped him develop his own contemporary-classical genre.
